Tools you'll need
- Switches (Cherry MX type — 3-pin or 5-pin both work)
- Keycaps
- Phillips PH00 screwdriver (optional — one is included)
Assembly
Building guide
- Align the plate on top of the PCB, ensuring the plate notch is aligned with the top edge of the keyboard.
- Insert switches into the plate and PCB, starting with the four corner switches for stability.
- Place the case foam on the bottom of the case. Set the plate/PCB/switch assembly into the case and secure with the four screws.
- Install the two feet under the case, then install the keycaps.
- Connect the TYPE-30 to your computer via the USB-C cable — it's ready to use.
Configuration
VIA programming guide
VIA lets you remap every key on the TYPE-30. Because the TYPE-30 requires a custom definition file, follow these steps carefully.
- Open usevia.app in Chrome or Edge (required — Firefox is not supported).
- Go to the Settings tab and enable Show Design tab.
- Go to the Design tab and click Load Draft Definition. Use the file matching your PCB type:
- Go to the Configuration tab to remap keys.
